Growing City Market Begins on April 2nd

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The popular City Market will kick off the 2011 season on Saturday, April 2, 2011.  The market is held Saturday mornings from 7 am – Noon from April – October.  City Market is located in downtown Charlottesville in the parking lot in between Water Street and South Street.  City Market features over 100 local vendors that sell a variety of fresh produce, herbs, plants, meats, crafts, baked goods and much, much more…

In 2010, City Market vendors generated over $1.4 million in gross sales collectively.  City Market which is managed by the City of Charlottesville, Department of Parks & Recreation provides a fun, safe, family-friendly environment for local vendors to display and sell their home-grown or hand-made products.  The two summer weekday markets, The Market at Pen Parkon Tuesdays, and Farmers in the Park in Meade Park, begin in May and run from 3pm until 7pm.

Launched in 2010 and continuing for 2011, market customers who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) will be able to use their EBT cards as well as debit cards at the market again to buy fresh produce and meats.  This program is managed by JABA (Jefferson Area Board for Aging).  We will also have Market gifts certificate available through Market Central this year.

For more information about the City Market, please contact Stephanie Anderegg-Maloy at (434) 970-3371 or Citymarket@charlottesville.org.
